The ProForm ThinLine Pro Desk Treadmill Review

The ProForm ThinLine Pro Desk Treadmill featuring an adjustable desktop console and integrated tablet holder.

This is the “PRO” version of the innovative ProForm ThinLine Treadmill Desk which adds more workout programs and power adjustable  uprights to the specification of the standard ThinLine Desk treadmill.

The power uprights allows the user to raise or lower the desk at the touch of a button. This greatly enhances the utility and ergonomics of the treadmill either in it’s treadmill desk or conventional treadmill mode, allowing for a perfect fit with the user.

There are 40 workouts, split into four functional groups. The user can choose from high-intensity, incline, speed, and calorie-burn workouts.

This model is iFIT enabled. The iFIT technology allows the user to walk/jog/run tracks along routes generated by Google maps that simulate the terrain of the trail you are following. It also features training sessions with Jillian Michaels.

The stylish console houses a back lit display providing workout feedback, and a “CoolAire” workout fan helps to keep things cool. A removable shelf is provided to hold a tablet computer in position.

The treadmill is underwritten by a lifetime frame and motor warranty, 5 years parts warranty and a 2 years labor warranty.

Here are the main features:

Drive motor

Driving this treadmill is a powerful 3.0 CHP motor. This unit makes use of high-grade wiring, insulation, and a thermal cut-off switch. Additionally through the use of high-end, commercial bearings and brushes, this motor delivers the longest, most powerful drive possible.

The motor is also dynamically spin-balanced and extensively tested for superior performance in vibration and noise in order to deliver a smooth and quiet operation.

Treadmill desk

One of the key features of this treadmill is it’s integrated work desk. With the equipment in it’s “desk” mode the treadmill serves as a work station and provides a stable platform to support, books, paperwork or a  laptop computer.

Hand rail mounted switches

Control switches for regulating both the speed and incline of the treadmill are conveniently mounted on the handrails. This location makes them readily accessible during use.

You are able to speed up, slow down or adjust the elevation of the walking deck without having to to press the buttons on the control panel. Having these secondary control switches is much more convenient and safer as you don’t have to lean forward to access the main control panel.

Power adjustable uprights

With a touch of a button it is possible to raise or lower the height of the desk top within the range of 14″. This will enable the user to find the perfect height for the desk top in order to read books, papers or operate a lap top computer while walking comfortably on the tread belt.

Speed adjustment

The treadmill comes equipped with “QuickSpeed” control. This means that you can easily jump to any speed within the range 0 – 12 MPH with one touch at any time during your workout. You can decrease your speed immediately when you are tired and need a break, or increase it instantly for a challenging burst.

Workout programs

This treadmill has a varied selection of 40 programs split into four functional groups. Each workout having been designed by a certified personal trainer.

The user can choose from high-intensity, incline, speed, and calorie-burn workouts. The simple navigation makes it quick and easy to pick your workout and get going.

The workout programs take control of the treadmill and automatically adjusts the speed and incline allowing you to concentrate on working out.

Heart rate monitor

The treadmill is equipped with a dual grip heart rate monitor. The built-in precision sensors allow you to quickly and accurately monitor your heart rate. The user simply grips the built-in sensors to quickly and accurately monitor their  heart rate, and stay within their optimum training zone in order to burn more fat.

Workout cooling fan

This treadmill has a “CoolAire” workout fan incorporated into the control console to keep the user cool during their workout. The fan features multiple speed settings. Pressing the fan increase or decrease button to selects a fan speed or turns off the fan completely.

iFIT enabled

This treadmill is iFIT enabled. In essence this is a wireless connection between the Internet and the treadmill. The iFIT feature allows you to experience trails all over the globe just as if you were running outside.

iFIT enables you to customize your own fitness program, receive automatic workout downloads, manage your profile online and work out with Jillian Michaels. You can even add the thrill of competition to your workout with 5k races against your Facebook friends.

It should be noted that this particular feature requires a home wireless internet connection, and membership to iFIT.com which is available as an optional extra.

Incline adjustment

The treadmill is also equipped with “Quick Incline” control. This allows you to electronically change the degree of slope up or down throughout your workout from the control panel. The slope of the incline can be adjusted within the range 0 -12 %. You can simulate running uphill and add both challenge and variety to your exercise session.

Deck decline

In addition to the 12 % of positive inclination that can be adjusted by a simple “Quick control” system the deck is also able to decline to – 3 %. This is a feature that is usually only found on more expensive, gym quality machines. The deck decline has the benefit of activating different muscles by walking at a decline. This is claimed to burn more calories and stimulate more muscle for faster results.

Safety key

A safety key and lanyard is provided with the treadmill. In order for the treadmill to be operational the key must be present in the control console. This means that with the key withdrawn the treadmill cannot be operated by unauthorized users such as small children.

The safety key has a lanyard with a small plastic clip attached to one end which can be clipped onto the users clothing. If the user were to accidentally trip or fall while on the treadmill the key is pulled away from the console causing the treadmill’s walking belt to slow to a stop.

Folding design

This is a folding or “space saver” model which means that when not in use the treadmill can be folded into a near upright position where it will then occupy a lot smaller floor area.

The ability to fold the deck into an upright position is also useful in order to clean the floor area under the treadmill aswell as making any maintenance work on the treadmill easier.
