NordicTrack GX 5.5 Sport Cycle Review

The NordicTrack GX 5.5 Sport Cycle is a “sports” or “spinning” exercise bike. It’s similar to a racing type cycle and has the seat, pedals and handlebars positioned to enable a forward leaning, crouched down posture.

The cycle features a heavy (48 lbs) inertia enhanced, flywheel to provide a smooth, natural action and a resistance mechanism that can be used to adjust the intensity of the workout.

A console mounted in front of the rider includes a back-lit display which provides feedback data on the workout session such as speed, time, distance, calories burned and and pulse.

The machine is covered by a warranty which offers a lifetime warranty on the frame, 2 years on all parts and 1 year labor.

Adjustable handlebars

The sports cycle features handlebars that are fitted with a non-slip material and have been engineered to be comfortable and help reduce fatigue. Additionally there are twin elbow pads that provide comfort and support during your ride.

The handlebars can be adjusted both up and down and fore and aft in order to obtain the optimum riding position.

An adjustment knob at the front of the frame when slackened off allows the handlebar pillar to be raised or lowered. A ratchet handle in front of the handlebars allow them to be moved backwards or forwards.

Steel frame

The frame of the sports cycle is constructed from commercial grade steel, making it extremely sturdy and has been treated with a corrosion inhibitor to ensure a long life.

Back-lit display

The back-lit display shows the following workout data:

SPEED, TIME, DISTANCE, CALORIES BURNED and PULSE.

Additionally there is a line representation of a quarter mile race track, where segments of the track appear as you exercise until the whole track appears.

Precision flywheel

An important component of any exercise bike is the flywheel. This model has a 48 lbs, inertia enhanced flywheel that has been designed to give a silky smooth operation. This will benefit the user with a much more natural, fluid feel when pedaling.

Adjustable saddle

To ensure a good seating position during your workout the sport cycle  is fitted with a padded saddle. The seat can be adjusted both up and down as well as forward and back to ensure the optimum seating position for the user.

Heart rate monitor

The exercise bike is equipped with a “CardioGrip” heart rate monitor. This helps you to make the most out of every workout by monitoring your heart rate with sensors that are built into the handlebars.

A wireless chest strap is also included which transmits your heart rate data continuously to the display without any need to touch the heart rate sensors on the handlebars.

By monitoring your heart rate you can ensure that you’re always in the right training zone for your goals. This results in a more effective workout, burn more fat, and improve your cardiovascular health.

Adjustable resistance

This sports cycle makes it easier to burn calories and increase your muscle tone by allowing the user to increase or decrease the amount of resistance that is applied to the bike’s motion.

Water bottle holder

A conveniently located water bottle holder is attached to the frame in a similar position as you would find on a conventional cycle.

Pedals with toe clips

The sports cycle  is equipped with toe cages and adjustable straps to keep your feet in place just like on a road going  cycle.

Transport wheels

The equipment has two transport wheels attached to the front of the frame that enable the equipment to be moved easily from one location to another.

Indoor cycling DVD

Included with the sports cycle is a workout DVD to both guide and motivate the user who is new to indoor cycling.
