Best Treadmill


Due to the plethora of models available from competing manufacturers, trying to find the top machine in the fitness arena is getting harder all of the time. In reality there is no "best treadmill", but a machine that most ideally suits an individual's fitness requirements, aspirations, and budget.

Those wanting to get the greatest bang for their buck and also get a machine that meets their fitness needs will require them to compare specifications, features, and prices.

Many consumer research groups place treadmills at the top of home fitness equipment sales, and manufacturers have to keep improving in order to remain competitive.

In the $500 to $799 price range is the NordicTrack C 700. This is a space saver or folding treadmill which means that it can be folded into a near upright position after use so that it then occupies less floor space.

It is has a 20" x 55" tread belt powered by a 2.75 CHP (continuous duty) motor which can sustain speeds of up to 10 mph. The powered incline is adjustable within the range of 0 to 10 %.

The treadmill provides built-in training expertise with the inclusion of 20 in-built workouts. Each of these automatically adjust the incline and speed, in order to meet your calorie burning or distance goals.

The center piece of the control console is the LED display which shows  essential workout data such as speed, time, distance, and heart rate. There is also "calories burned" meter incorporated into the display.

This model is iFIT enabled with the iFIT unit already built in. You can customize your own fitness program, receive workout downloads, and manage your profile online. This feature requires a home wireless internet connection, and membership to iFIT.com sold separately.

A workout cooling fan built into the control console helps the user keep cool during their workout while an audio jack allows the user to plug in their iPOD and listen to music via the built in sound system.

$800  to  $999


In the $800 to $999 range is the NordicTrack C 990. This is a space saver (folding) treadmill which means that it can be folded into a near upright position after use so that it then occupies less floor space.

Powered by a 3.0 CHP motor it can sustain speeds of up to 12 MPH with a deck that can be inclined up to 12 % of grade. Workout variety is provided by 32 in-built programs which vary the speed and incline of the running surface automatically.

The control console features a 7" full color, web enabled, touch screen that allows the user to browse online during their workout. All the usual workout data such as speed, time, distance, incline, calories burned, and pulse can be navigated through menus with a swipe of the finger.

This model is iFIT enabled with the iFIT module already built in. You can download additional workouts, track your fitness online, and customize your fitness program. This feature requires a home, wireless internet connection and subscription to iFIT.com which is sold separately.

A workout fan is built into the console to help to keep things cool while entertainment needs are provided for with an iPOD / MP3 compatible music port and an adjustable tablet holder.

$1000  to  $1499


In the $1000 to $1499 range is the NordicTrack Commercial 1750. This is a "space saver" or folding model which show cases many innovative technical features to engage and motivate the user.

A long (60") and wide (22") tread belt is powered by a 3.8 CHP, continuous duty motor. The deck is supported by the "Runner's Flex" cushioning system that has been designed to reduce the impact on your joints and deliver a more comfortable running surface.

This treadmill is IFIT enabled with the iFIT unit already built in. This feature allows the user to customize their own fitness program, receive automatic workout downloads, and manage their profile online. A home, wireless internet connection and subscription to iFIT.com  is required to enjoy this feature.

The console features a web-enabled, color touch screen. The user is able to view workout stats with a swipe of a finger, or go online to access email, watch sports, or engage with social networks. The display also works with iFIT technology enabling the user to design their own workouts and then watch their progress with Google Maps Street View.

The running deck can be elevated up to 15 %, but unusually it can also be declined to a value of -3 %. The decline feature allows you to activate different muscles for faster results by walking at a decline. Walking on a decline will enable you to burn more calories than walking on a flat surface and stimulate more muscle for faster results.

$1500  to  $1999


In the $1500 to $1999 range is the ProForm PRO 9000. This is a folding treadmill that embodies a commercial grade, motor. As is the case with many models in this range it has many exciting features designed to enhance the treadmill experience.

The spacious (22" x 60") belt is powered by a 4.25 CHP Commercial Plus motor which will allow for speeds of up to 12 MPH. There are 38 workout programs that automatically adjust the incline / decline and speed of the treadmill throughout the course of the workout.

A 10" full color, web enabled, touch  screen allows the user to browse online during their workout. All the usual workout data such as speed, time, distance, incline, calories burned, and pulse can be navigated through menus with a swipe of the finger.

It also iFIT Coach ready where new workouts are sent to your treadmill and you can access your iFIT account from your enabled exercise equipment, computer, tablet, or smartphone. This feature requires a home wireless internet connection, and membership to iFIT.com.

$2000  to  £2499
